Age Equality in Health and Social Care

The Equality Bill that is currently before Parliament streamlines and strengthens existing legislation on discrimination. In particular, it creates a new equality duty on public bodies and others carrying out public functions that applies in relation to age as well as to seven other protected characteristics. This consultation considers what the new measures on age equality would mean for health and social care service provision.

Whole System Approach To Eligibility for Social Care

The Department of Health has published a consultation on the revision of the 'Fair Access to Care Services' guidance (FACS), originally introduced in 2003, which provides local authorities with a framework for determining individual eligibility for social care. Key to the new draft guidance is the integration of eligibility criteria into the personalisation agenda and the implementation of a fair, transparent and consistent process for determining eligibility.
